Thanks for the reminder, Doug. I have backed up my blog. However, I have not done any of the other backups you mentioned. Nice summmary. First on my list is my hard drives. I have some info on external drives, but not all of it.

Have been using an external hard drive for a while. I can add my name to that list of hard drive crashes, not a pretty site. It took a long time to recover my information. Though i have not gone as far as you talk about it may be worth doing after reading this post. And Mike is right, those external drives are very inexpensive now. Thanks.

Great summary of all backups you should consider. Also do not rely too much about your hosting company. I got caught several times that a site couldn’t be restored to his last status. And if they can it might take in excess of 24 hours. And automate as much as possible!

Great points and something everyone needs to be aware of. External hard drives are relatively cheap and having your backups can save a lot of headaches and they should be off site from your computer.
