The cornerstone of building an opt-in list is your opt-in page; whether you’re driving huge volumes of traffic to it or just learning how to build traffic, learning how to create a great opt-in page will increase your conversions and ensure you get as many targeted subscribers as possible from your traffic levels.

To learn how to create a great opt-in page, first start with the basics that apply to every niche. A great opt-in page will have a powerful headline, a call to action, information on the e-zine itself, the free signup incentive or both, some sort of graphic or video representation and, of course, the opt-in form itself.

The page must look professional – while fancy graphics or astounding video aren’t necessary, it IS necessary that the page be clean, business-like and present the information in a clear and concise manner. There needs to be a logical flow, through both the visual presentation and the flow of the copy, that leads the prospect to the form and a call to action to get them to sign up now.

Use that frame of reference for every opt-in page you build – but that’s just the first step in learning how to create a great opt-in page. For example, in some niches a video-based opt-in page works best, in some a great opt-in page has numerous photos and/or graphics, while other niches respond best to clean copy simply bearing a headline, a few bullet points and the signup form. So how to create a great opt-in page varies then, and only testing and tweaking will show you the right path for you in that particular niche with that particular opt-in offer.

Start with one page in each of those three styles, and rotate your traffic between them. Once enough targeted traffic has hit each page to make comparisons reliable, see which of the 3 formats has performed best for you. Now make three versions of just that one format with changes to the headline, body copy or graphics, and the placement of the form. Again, after enough traffic has been through to give statistically-viable results, see which headline, body copy and form placement combination is working best for you.

The winner a that point is probably the best one for you to use, although you can do further tweaks and testing if you like. Now use that format for your other squeeze pages in that same niche and you should continue to see high conversion rates from the traffic you’re generating as long as it’s targeted traffic in the first place.

Once your testing and tweaking is done and you’ve figured out how to create a great opt-in page for that niche, building your subscriber bases faster and faster is just a matter of driving more and more targeted traffic to it – a skill you should focus on improving anyway.

Promoting an offline business? Then you should consider becoming an online email marketer. There is no more powerful way to promote your offline business online than with email based marketing, in part because few if any of your offline competitors will know they should become an online email marketer too!

Email based marketing can be defined as building opt-in list of targeted prospects, then using email newsletter software to brand your company, your services and your products by sending your business ezine to those targeted leads. Whether your company is currently selling locally, regionally, nationally or internationally you can raise your profile in your industry and increase sales by learning the ins-and-outs of being an online email marketer.

To get started with email based marketing, it’s best to think of it as optin marketing – you need to focus first on what would get your best prospects to optin to your email marketing. Since most people come online looking for information on a particular subject, study your target market’s demographics and discern what information they’d be most likely to search for online. Then write a series of free reports that would give them the information they’re looking for, being sure to title each so that it’s obvious what information is available in that report.

Next, you’ll need a service to register your email marketing addresses as prospects opt in, and to let you send email broadcasts to those email marketing addresses. Major List Building Breakthrough Secrets Revealed In Free Video

The Real Truth About Online Success

Thanks to everyone who was on the PLR videos teleseminar
last night – the lines were packed and the feedback has
been really positive. Everyone who was registered for the

There are a lot of launches going on this week, and
no doubt you’ve been clobbered by a ton of e-mails
hitting your Inbox all pushing the same launches. You’ll
notice we haven’t sent you those – first, you’ll get enough
about them, and second I haven’t seen one that matches up
to next week’s Massive Firesale JV  

All those e-mails are a clue to the biggest truth in
this biz, though… How does every big dog make the bulk
of their bucks online? Their lists, of course – 50,000,
a hundred thousand, half a mil or more – everyone of them
has a big list and grows it whenever they can.

Sure, it’s great to get products with MRR or PLR – but
what then? Over the weekend I heard someone say ‘put the
site online, then engines will find it and send you tons
of visitors.’ Nonsense. Maybe 5 years ago, but these days
it takes time and effort to get ANY appreciable volume
from the engines – most sites never do, truth be told.

And that’s what makes your list so important – and
your list building. I often remind the people I coach
that they need to be putting 1/3 of their time online
into list-building – putting up squeeze pages, writing
articles, creating products for giveaways, creating new
e-courses, getting more visitors to their squeeze pages,
etc. The true path to online success lies in that list.

21 Internet Marketing Success Steps

Like others in the upper echelons of Internet marketing and affiliate marketing, I’m asked one question by Internet marketing and affiliate marketing ‘newbies’ more often than any other:

“I can’t seem to make money online – What am I doing wrong?”

When my Internet marketing mentoring students ask me that, I can give them a detailed breakdown specific to their online operations – but they’re paying top dollars for my time investment, and I only mentor those who already have a viable presence online. So what about those new to Internet marketing – what advice can we offer them?

Time constraints prevent anyone from checking into the current operations of everyone starting out in Internet marketing, and after 11 years of being online full time it’s easy to forget how frustrating even the simplest of Internet marketing activities can be to the neophyte.

So in response I put together this list of ‘21 Internet Marketing Success Steps‘ to try and help guide both those new to Internet marketing and those with some Internet marketing experience who find their online marketing profits stalled or declining.

Pretty much ALL Internet Marketing success breaks down very similar to:

Basic Internet Marketing:

1) Choose affiliate or your own products;
2) Build some type of web presence for it;
3) Get targeted eyeballs to that page or blog post;
4) Start building your list from those targeted visitors;
5) Use every free method to bring more people to the site;
6) Use your list to bring people back to the site and to new sites;

Intermediate Internet Marketing:

7) Add related backend offers to your site;
8) Set up an affiliate program and get others pushing your site;
9) Put about 30% of what’s coming in back into getting more visitors;
10) Participate in giveaways to build your list and visitor numbers;
11) Find related products for new sites and do 1 – 10 with them too;
12) Attend live IM events, for knowledge but mostly for networking;
13) Convert related PLR resources to unique products to put online;

Advanced Internet Marketing:

14) Set up a backend linking all your sites together & automate the processes;
15) Build e-mail e-courses to make available in each niche/area you cover;
16) Outsource much of your visitor acquisition;
17) Do Joint Ventures with other advanced Internet Marketers;
18) Outsource your product creation;
19) Evaluate and improve your automated backend efforts;
20) Speak at industry events & seminars;
21) Give back – mentor others to help them achieve their dreams.

For most people starting out it’s safe to assume the following as averages other Internet marketing newbies have achieved…

First sale: 2 – 6 months.
First steady trickle of sales: 4 – 12 months.
Full Time Earnings: 2 – 5 years.

Those Internet marketing timelines can be influenced up or down by the amount of time and money you can put in, your background experience, your focus, and mostly by the amount of concentrated, continual effort you put into following your plan in a tightly-focused manner.

The 3 Biggest Biz-Killers…

1) Lack of focus (too many different, unrelated activities).
2) Giving up too soon (lack of perseverance).
3) Half-hearted effort (It takes a lot of time and/or a lot of money – you have to be willing to invest one or the other (or both) on a constant basis for the first few years at least. Everyone I’ve met at our level or above has a passionate commitment to their Internet marketing business.)

Do an honest appraisal of your Internet marketing efforts to date. Are you following the above steps in order, or jumping around? Starting at #1, how far into the list can you go, confident you’re performing that task diligently? Re-evaluate your plans based on what that tells you, and use that current limitation as the guide to what you need to learn more about, to focus on more, to put more effort into – and to eliminate anything else you’re doing that is straining your focus and your money and time constraints.

Decide what your goals are online. A few extra bucks? A steady inflow to help with the mortgage or to get a new car or a cottage? Enough to do this full time? Or sustaining a level that lets you achieve all your dreams and desires? Each level is being achieved right now by people online – just know which you’re after so you can gauge the amount of time and effort you have to commit to your desired level of Internet marketing success.

Don’t be swayed by stories of meteorical rises online – while they do happen, they’re extremely rare. Usually they don’t make all the details public – I know a lot of ‘overnight successes’ who spent 3-5 or more years in the trenches first – just no one knows that. And others who put 6 or 7 figures into their Internet marketing businesses before you first heard of them.

And watch out for people who had one or two big launches 3, 5 or 10 years ago and are still teaching that same system – Internet marketing practices changes too quickly and too drastically for that info to still be accurate. When evaluating advice you get in this biz, always think to yourself:

“Yes, but what have they done lately?”

If the answer is ‘nothing new in the last 6 months’, take the advice with a grain of salt and stay focused on your own path, only using the bits from it that fit in with your own Internet marketing strategy. After all, only YOU know where YOUR biz is right now, and what YOUR end goals are, right?

The best advice I’ve seen in this biz is to focus on making your first buck. Not a lot, just your first buck. Achieving that shows it can be done. Then focus on making one more. That shows it wasn’t a fluke – it can be repeated over and over successfully. That eliminates one of the biggest stumbling blocks to building your own Internet marketing business by showing that a) it can be done, and b) YOU can do it. Then just use the 21 Internet Marketing Success Steps above to build your business by continually repeating that process in larger volume for larger returns, and you’re on your way!

More and more video is appearing online – both personal videos people share with friends and videos marketers are using to sell their products, build traffic to their web sites, as products themselves, and to build their lists.

When you talk about using video for list-building, most people immediately think of offering downloadable videos as bait to get people to opt-in – and that’s a very good use of video. But there’s an even better way to use video for building your list – Video Squeeze Pages!

Still fairly new online, the initial results from video opt-in pages are extremely encouraging – people are reporting much higher opt-in rates with video squeeze pages than the standard HTML pages that were there before. And that’s not really surprising, if you think about live in the offline world.

It’s human nature that we prefer doing business with people we know, as opposed to big, faceless corporations. You like dealing with Bob the grocer, Mary the hairdresser, Donna the newspaper girl and Billy the pool boy. But what emotion is called up by thinking about the government, the banks, the telephone and cable companies or an oil company? Which of those two groups would you rather your money was going to?

The same will most likely prove to be the case online, based on the results we’re seeing from video. When you do a quick video inviting people to sign up and telling them about your e-zine and your incentive, they’re doing business with YOU – a real, live human being they can probably relate to, as opposed to a big faceless website.

You’ve been to a number of the huge websites – from corporate sites to the search engines. Feel any emotional attachments to them? Would you care if they disappeared tomorrow and were replaced by another? Would you even notice?

But if you frequent a marketer’s site, one that presents themselves in videos for you, the connection is stronger. Not as strong as if you’d met them in person, perhaps, but MUCH more so than a corporate site.

And THAT’S the reason emerging for the fact that video squeeze pages are getting better results. And like anything in the realm of marketing, better results means more profit – and that more and more people will be following suit until the market is saturated – if that level CAN be reached online.

But don’t wait til video squeeze pages are as common as blogs are today – get your own video squeeze page online now while they’re fairly new, and enjoy the extra returns it brings. While many thought blogging was a passing fad, it’s now obvious that blogging is a practice that is here to stay as a powerful Web 2.0 marketing and traffic-generation toolset – and marketers are definitely profiting from their blogging efforts. Blogs are especially attractive to Internet marketers, for a variety of reasons.

First, installing and operating a blog is very simple. There is no need to learn HTML, and you can have a blog set up and operating in a matter of minutes. For popular blog software, such as WordPress, there are numerous templates available all over the Internet to help you make your blog attractive. And most professional hosting sites offer almost instant WordPress installation through Fantastico in your cPanel options.

You can blog even if you don’t have your own website, by using a hosted blog such as that found at Blogger. However, you should ideally set your blog up on its own domain, with a professional domain name and webhosting.

Blogs are especially important for search engine optimization purposes. When you add a blog post to your blog, simply include a link or two to your main website that your blog pertains to – over time link to both the homepage and at least a few of the main interior pages of the site. This adds inbound links for your website, and may help to boost your rankings in the search engines. Be sure your blog template includes an appropriate robots meta-tag or use a ‘Do Follow’ blog plug-in though, or you may be wasting your time.

The important thing about marketing blogging is that you provide content that is of interest to your niche – not to the industry that your niche is in. You must stay tightly focused on your niches’ concerns, problems, and desires and ignore the rest of the market as a whole. You can’t please the entire market, and that isn’t what you are trying to accomplish anyway.

If you have various areas or sites to promote that aren’t tightly targeted to that same niche, set up a separate blog for each one. For example, an Internet marketer may have one blog for mainstream marketing, one for affiliate marketing, one for niche marketing, etc. Or an Internet marketer targeting the golf niche, as another example, might have one blog that discusses golf swings and how to improve them, one on golfing equipment, and a third that discusses and rates golf courses around the world.

Always keep in mind that the more tightly focused the blog, the tighter the targeting of the traffic it attracts – and highly-targeted traffic is the lifeblood of your sales process and list-building online. In the previous example, all 3 blogs might lead to the same web site – but one would lead to the page where you’re selling golf instruction videos and e-books, the second to your section on golf equipment, and the third to a page promoting golf vacations and packages.

That same example shows how easily blogging can benefit affiliate marketers as well – each of those three blogs might send traffic to two or three links each, tightly targeted to that blog’s subject matter. Yes, all 3 deal with golf, but by handling it correctly you could be tightly targeting 6 or 9 different affiliate opportunities within the golfing industry online.

It is also important that you blog daily, or several times per week at the very least. Don’t worry about how many people are reading your blog. The more you update it, the more popular it can become in the blog directories and search engines. Over time, you should be able to build a good readership, and you will make sales to those people as time goes on. Add a sign-up form for your opt-in mailing list and you’ve created a really powerful marketing & profit center for yourself, one that can generate an ongoing influx of new traffic into your sales funnel.

To ensure you get maximum exposure for your blogs, use as many of the Web 2.0 services as you have time for. Use the ‘auto-pinging’ function built into WordPress to maximum advantage, list your blogs with services like Technorati and MyBlogLog, and use the online ping services like Pingoat and Ping-O-Matic to update even more directories each time you add another article (post) to your blogs.

Of all the Web 2.0 methods open to marketers, the combination of ease of use, low or no cost, and potential returns available makes blogging a must-have tool for Internet marketing, and it’s especially well-suited to those just entering the field. In fact, we’re seeing more and more fledgling Internet marketers beginning with, and sometimes staying exclusively with, blogging instead of traditional site building.

4 Critical Mistakes on List Building

As an Internet Marketer, building an opt-in list is vital to your overall success. This has been the case for as long as we have used the Internet as a marketing tool. Having an opt-in list allows you to immediately contact customers when new products are available, and also allows you to continue to market products which your list have not yet bought.

There are many ways to build an opt-in list, but there are also many mistakes that can be made along the way. Here are five critical mistakes that can be made, and how to avoid them.

  1. Failure to build a relationship with your list. Building a list is one thing, using it to your advantage is something else. You’ve got to keep in touch with your list. Weekly mailings are advised. Twice weekly mailings are better. Daily mailings are okay, but you don’t want to go overboard. Relationship building goes a little further in that you must answer emails from your list, and the email you send to them needs to be from a personal viewpoint – not sole advertisement.
  2. Failure to see that quality matters over quantity. Having a big list is great, unless it’s totally unresponsive. When you build your list, remember that the number of list members you have isn’t nearly as important as their interest in your topic. A small list of very responsive people will always do better than a large list of mostly unresponsive people.
  3. Failure to take advantage of list building opportunities. These days, it doesn’t take years to build a healthy opt-in list. It can be done in a matter of a few weeks. Yes, you should follow all of the old techniques, but take advantage of the new techniques as well. Get involved in joint venture giveaways. Start doing some social networking. Use social bookmarks. Build your list in every way possible.
  4. Failure to use a top-of-the-line autoresponder. This is another huge mistake that people make. Autoresponders of poor quality don’t deliver as well as they should. Many are automatically blocked by spam filters – regardless of what words are used in your message. Many don’t send the emails out in a timely manner. Many malfunction and send multiple emails (identical) out to each person on the list. Avoid these problems by starting with a quality autoresponder from the very beginning. Your opt-in list will thank you for it.

Are You Using Viral Marketing To Build Your List To Guru Status?

I hear it all the time. “The money is in the list!” Do I believe it? You bet I do! How do you think the gurus became gurus? By having a large list of people who know who they are and buy from them. It’s common sense! If you build a big list, give that list content, promote products to that list, and you will make money. The bigger your list the more you’ll make. It’s a simple concept, but it does take some work.

I have been using one tactic that has built my list very quickly and has made my list very diversified. I have people on my list that are interested in earning money with Google Adsense, List Building, Income Systems, Viral Marketing, and just about any other topic related to Internet marketing.

So, I bet your asking me how I did this?

Two words – Viral Marketing

That’s right, I took the power of viral marketing and watched it build my list on auto pilot day after day, and I continually use it to build my lists even today.

Whenever I want to add a few thousand subscribers to my list, I simply find a few products that come with resale rights that I can use as giveaway bonuses. These products are usually on the same topic. I then create a mini guide talking about these products and about the topic of the products. I then put the links inside this mine guide to the resale rights products.

The guides range from 15-30 pages, and cover the topic of the resale rights products that I chose. For example, if my resale rights products are on List Building, then my guide will also be on List Building. You can either create your own content for the guide, pay someone to write it for you, or use private label content.

After your guide is all created, put a small ad on the first page of the guide for your list’s sign up page. Package it all up and start giving it away to everyone that you can, and tell them they can give it away or sell it. By doing this, you are starting a viral marketing campaign that could go on for months or even years! Every time a new person gets your guide, the first thing they see is the ad for your list’s sign up page. If they pass it on, all of those people see your ad too, and it just keeps going on and on.

Getting people to give things away is getting harder and harder, so to make it beneficial for people to give your guide away throw in a few affiliate links to resources and allow people to brand those affiliate links. That way people can give your guides away with your list’s sign up page in them, and when someone buys through the affiliate links the person giving the guide away gets paid! It’s a win-win situation.

You could use this one tactic alone and put out a new guide that others can give away every other week, and you’ll be amazed at how fast you build your list.

Don’t be fooled though, you have to work your list. You must give good content, and treat them all like they are your customers. Even if they have never bought from you before, there’s always the chance they will buy from you in the future!
