Affiliate Marketing – The Benefits Of Guest Affiliate Blogging

Affiliate marketing blogs are an accepted and proven-effective means of building your affiliate commissions, and as such you’re probably already using affiliate marketing blogs in your online marketing mix. But have you considered the advantages of ‘guest affiliate blogging’?

Guest blogging isn’t new in the big-league blogging circles, but few affiliates have realized the advantages they can derive from including guest blogging in their affiliate marketing mix.

Put simply, guest blogging is writing articles for other bloggers to use as posts on their blogs. Your articles may already be appearing on other people’s blogs through article directories, but this is much more direct and much more targeted.

Chances are you already have a list of blogs you follow in your niche, some of which you probably comment on regularly to get the backlinks. Go to each of those blogs and look for the contact information for the site owner – if it’s not there, do a ‘whois’ search for the owner of the domain – on most private sites the owner and the blog author will be one and the same.

Write them a simple e-mail explaining who you are and asking them if they would be interested in receiving the occasional guest post from you for their blog. Offer to send them a sample if they’d be interested in checking out the quality of your writing, and give them the link to your own blog as a further example.

If they respond positively, do not try to push an affiliate product or link in the post; make it an information-packed article that will draw traffic to that blog post. Target one of your keywords exactly as you would if you were writing for your own blog, but keep it in the third person instead of using the first-person familiarities you might use on your own signature blog. In other words, stick to the same high standards you’d need to adhere to if you were writing an article for the biggest article directories.

Include a summary paragraph at the bottom of the article, and link back to your own blog and one of your squeeze pages if the site owner will allow you two links. If they limit you to one, then make it a link to your blog’s homepage or one of your posts that relates to the article you’re submitting. As always, be sure you use your targeted keyword in your anchor text as an aid to your SEO rankings.

Guest affiliate blogging lets you get your name and information in front of a wider audience of targeted prospects, helps to establish you as an expert in your field, and garners additional backlinks to your own blogs and squeeze pages. And if you’ve produced a well-crafted blog post that helps the blog owner attract more targeted traffic, you’ve most likely made a new online friend that may well be a powerful joint venture partner down the road. Don’t forget to reciprocate – invite that blogger to guest post on your blog as well!

There’s a new decade looming, and if the past 10 years is any indication, Internet marketing, affiliate marketing, niche marketing and blogging will create new millionaires before the new decade ends… There have been so many new advances in online marketing in the last 10 years that the industry doesn’t even resemble it’s former self these days. Blogging, social bookmarking, Web 2.0 sites, the rise of Google, Bing and Yahoo! have all helped to define the current state of this business, and more people are getting into affiliate marketing and related work-at-home businesses than ever before!

Protect Your Online Business – Back Everything Up Now!

There are so many ways that a ‘data failure’ can cause a catastrophe in your Internet marketing or affiliate marketing business – failing to have backup copies of ALL data crucial to our online business can at least set you WAY back, if not knock you right out of the game… Don’t think you need to back up your hard drive? Ever had (or even heard of) a hard drive crash? What if you woke up tomorrow and couldn’t access ANY of the programs, products or information currently residing only on your computer? Would that affect your bottom line in 2010?

What if you went to log into your autoresponder tomorrow to send out your e-zine, only to find the company whose services you use had gone belly-up? Could you survive financially while you started building your mailing list from the bottom up once again? The financial crash in the US in 2008-2009 and the DotCom bubble burst early in the last decade both demonstrate that even huge companies with millions in funding can disappear overnight – so how secure is your list if your autoresponder company has the only copy?

Is your blog one of your main sources of traffic generation to our Internet marketing, niche marketing and affiliate marketing opportunities? How long would it take you to get it back up and running if some shmuck attacked it tomorrow and messed it all up for you – or worse yet hijacked it and pointed it toward banned materials? Really want to lose the benefits you have built up from all those links, all those pages indexed in the search engines?

Each of those is a scary scenario, isn’t it? It’s easy to forget our entire livelihood as Internet marketers is based on electrons that can be wiped out in seconds… But we don’t need to be defenseless – we can go a long way towards protecting our online businesses with very little time and money invested in it. Here’s a few suggestions…

Backing Up Hard Drives

Schedule a day THIS WEEK to do your backups. Start by getting an external drive, 1 TB or larger, and hooking it up to your computers and/or laptops via USB. Use the included software or a program like GoodSync to copy all your files from each of your machines onto the backup drive, creating one folder for each machine so you don’t overwrite any important info that’s on each machine. Once they’re all backed up, disconnect the drive and turn it off – don’t leave it connected where a virus or hacker might access it!

Backing Up Mailing Lists

Most reputable autoresponder services have an ‘Export’ function, though you may have to hunt a bit for it. Before using it though, read the docs or contact their customer service to be sure it merely gives you a backup copy as opposed to also removing them from your list there. While you should be fine, some of the early companies had it set to use the link as a ‘remove to a file’ function – I don’t think any of today’s autoresponder services are set up that way, but better safe than sorry, right? Again, once you have the backup list of subscribers, turn on your external drive and ad a copy there, remembering to turn it off and disconnect it immediately afterward.

Backing Up Blogs

I know there are WordPress plugins for this now, but I can’t comment on how well they work or even which ones work best as I’ve never used them – anything this important I prefer to do manually to make sure everything’s right. I start by making a new folder for the backup and using FTP software to download the entire blog folder or site. This ensures I have a clean copy of all the WordPress files including any customizations I’ve done to the theme, and any graphics, videos, etc. that I’ve uploaded to the site over time.

Understand, though, that unlike backing up a web site, merely FTPing down the files on your site ISN’T a complete backup – your posts aren’t included in those files! To get those, in your WordPress Dashboard, choose Tools from the left column, then click the ‘Export’ link and follow along. For ultimate safety, next go to your site’s Control Panel and do a backup on your blog’s database as well. Once again, be sure to back these all up to your external USB drive.

Backing Up E-Mails, Contacts, Etc.

Depending on what technologies you use that are crucial to your day-to-day operations, there are still a few more backups to do before you’re done. Go into whichever e-mail program you use and back up both your contacts and your e-mail folders. Each does this in a different process, so use the Help menu if you’re not familiar with the process. Next, backup your contacts in Skype, Yahoo & MSN messengers if you use them – again, use the help feature if you don’t know the process.

Backing Up Passwords, Logins, ID’s

Every day you visit certain sites you’re connected with or services you’re using – this is especially true in affiliate marketing, but also in Internet marketing, niche marketing and blogging. And a great many of those require special login URLs, user or affiliate ID’s, passwords, etc. For these I recommend a totally different type of backup – a hard copy!

I will not now, nor never have advocated people storing their passwords, especially a list of ID’s and passwords, on their computer. To me, it’s just too insecure and nothing more than bait to unsavory types. Pick up a hardcover book of blank lined pages at the dollar store and record them in that. JUST BE SURE to store the book in the safest location you can, to prevent anyone grabbing it, copying it, or spilling anything on it!

There are further steps you can take, like storing the backup drive and password book in a fireproof safe, keeping copies of both at an offsite location – even renting a safety deposit box to keep them in. Only YOU can decide what lengths you want (a can afford) to go to to protect your information and your business…

As to ongoing protection for your data, be sure to use a reputable virus scanner/protection program, a spyware blocker like SpyBot & TeaTimer, and check your blogs regularly with a plugin like exploit-scanner. The small time and financial investment in a full-protection system is far less than what it could cost you to recover your Internet marketing, niche marketing or affiliate marketing business after an attack on your unprotected data and programs!

Cost Per Action Marketing For Affiliates

CPA networks, or affiliate marketing operations based on a Cost-Per-Action model, have been around for years, even though they’re seldom discussed in the Internet Marketing arena, and just slightly more often in the affiliate marketing realm. Cost per action, also sometimes called cost per acquisition, is like most other affiliate marketing programs in that you make money from actions taken by targeted traffic your refer to the merchant’s site – but that’s where the similarity usually ends.

In regular affiliate programs, the money you earn is a percentage of each sale you make. With CPA offers, usually you’re earning your affiliate commissions based not on sales but on other actions the merchant wants to effect. It can be downloading a free report, asking for a free sample, having free information mailed out to you, getting access to a private members’ area of a website, etc.

As you can see from the above examples, cost-per-action or cost-per-acquisition is usually modeled so that you’re getting paid for free actions taken by the traffic you refer. So if you’re firmly planted in the affiliate marketing mindset, alarm bells are probably going off in your head right now… After all, what kind of shady operation is promising to pay you commissions when you haven’t made any sales? As if they had the money to just give away like that… Yeah, right!

If that’s what you’re thinking, here’s a real surprise for you: almost without exception, these cost per action arrangements are set up by, or on behalf of, some of the biggest offline companies in the world, including insurance companies, travel companies, offshoots of international banking consortiums, etc. These very large, very dependable corporations use cost per acquisition models to get leads from targeted prospects, leads they obviously hope to convert to ongoing clients. Their lead acquisition programs are tested, tweaked, and tested again, and are some of the most closely monitored results of any online activities anywhere.

It’s very important to remember that marketing is much more mature and professional in the offline world than in most of the online world. Look at the highly-varied background of today’s Internet marketers and affiliate marketers – surprisingly few have a solid marketing background or any formal marketing education at the post-secondary level. While many are earning 6, 7 or 8 figures a year online, most couldn’t even secure a junior-level position in corporate marketing departments – especially not on an international scale.

As a result, online marketers look at what they make on each sale and offer a piece of that to their affiliates. Affiliate marketers look at the product, the conversion rate of the salespage, and the percentage offered as affiliate commissions. Everything is based on the current sale in most cases. The closest most come to a CPA model is offering 100% commissions, meaning that really they’re giving away the sale to get the lead. But again, even 100% commissions are based solely on the current sale.

High-level offline marketing, however, is based on the lifetime value of each customer and factors in the ratio of leads to sales, the average retention rate and longevity of client contracts, and the total dollars earned from the ‘average’ customer or client. While this involves a lot of research and number-crunching Internet marketers are loath to even attempt, it allows lead acquisition programs to blow online marketers out of the water in terms of payouts.

Newer affiliates try to sign up in droves, often spurred on by e-books about CPA programs that tout the high earning possible from a pay-per-lead program. They don’t realize that corporations are very protective both of their brand’s image and of the quality of leads they receive – remember that the conversion ratio is one of the main factors in determining what they pay per lead. This results in as many as 90% of all applications to CPA networks being rejected, dashing the affiliate’s hopes for big CPA earnings.

In truth, without an existing track record in CPA, or very professionally-designed websites heavy in marketing psychology, most marketers will never get into the CPA networks and have a chance at earning money with cost per action opportunities. New CPA networks are coming online though that raise the bar for average marketers, providing both cost per acquisition offers and pre-designed websites shown to drive the right quality of traffic to the merchants’ sites and opt-in forms. These should finally open the cost per action field up to a great many more online marketers, finally making it a viable way for affiliate marketing businesses to make money online using the CPA model. If you are not already using article marketing for your business, you are missing out on sales and signups that could be garnered from this time tested method of marketing a business online. Anyone who isn’t already marketing their business with articles should get started on it right away.

Remember, your article marketing efforts of today will continue to pay off for years to come. You can’t say that about any other type of marketing that exists. For the future of your business, this is an area of marketing that you need to learn – and you need to learn every aspect of it as soon as possible.

You may shy away from article marketing because you can’t write well, or because you don’t think that article marketing is right for your niche. These are valid reasons – but they are wrong. Even if you can’t write well, you can pay someone who does. Having articles written is surprisingly cheap. In fact, you can have one article written each and every week for less than ten dollars.

You can also take one of the many free writing courses online to learn how to write articles. Once you get the hang of writing articles, you will find that you can write a short article in less than half an hour. As for article marketing not being right for your niche – wrong again. Article marketing works for all niches. Have you been to a search engine lately? No matter what you think of to type in, you will find web pages on that topic. Where there are webpages, there are readers, and where there are readers, there is a need for articles.

Go ahead – try it. Visit your favorite search engine and try to think up something off the wall and type it in. Bet you find webpages that have content – articles – on them! Web content comes from articles – whether they are articles that were written specifically for that website, or articles that were found in the article banks.

You have everything to gain from article marketing, and nothing to lose – as long as you are doing your article marketing in the right way. Even if you did it in the wrong way, the most you stand to lose is your time. Frankly, article marketing is something that is hard to fail at.

The process is incredibly simple: write an informative article, include a resource box that has a call to action, distribute the article, and reap the benefits for years to come. That’s all there is to it – and this is a marketing method that is available to everyone – even if they are new to Internet Business. You don’t have to be a guru to write articles. You become a guru by writing articles.

You don’t even have to own a business to start writing articles and profiting from them. Affiliate marketing, where you promote other peoples products and services for a percentage of each sale, can easily be done through article marketing – and this is where many gurus got their start.

Most Profitable Part Of Internet Marketing Systems

Well, after two days at the World Internet Summit we’re
still waiting to be impressed – maybe we’ve been spoiled
by how great Ken McArthur’s JVAlert Live seminars are…

Holding out hope for today, though – As a videographer
I’m curious to see what Mike Stewart has to say. He did
some great stuff with Jim Edwards a while back, and Jim
and Willie Crawford were the only ones with IM videos at
YouTube before my first one, so let’s see what wisdom he
imparts…

Also today is Dr. Mike Woo-Ming, whom I’ve seen some
spectacular things from – in fact I have his ‘Marketers
on a Mission’ disk here on my desk. So hope remains…

5 Key Things Which Merchants Must Provide To Their Affiliates Or Risk Losing Them And Face A Significant Drop In Sales!

High quality affiliates and web masters are now very discerning and fussy about the websites and products they get affiliated to. These top quality ‘super’ affiliates can significantly publicize the merchant’s website, create a flood of traffic to the website and generate a lot of sales for the merchant. It is therefore logical that many affiliate program owners pay particular attention to what affiliates want and provide them just that and more, otherwise they will leave your program and join your competitors and drive traffic to your competitor!

Although building an affiliate network appear to be an easy and low-cost way to generate sales, in reality, more attention to the details of the affiliate program is important if you want affiliates to sign up and advance to become your super affiliates who generate loads of sales for you. The key to recruit and retain affiliates who will explode your sales is to have an affiliate program that gives affiliates what they want so that they are highly motivated to generate many sales and increase your profits as well as earn large affiliate checks themselves!

Here go the important essentials that affiliates want from an affiliate program.

1. A high quality product, a professional well-laid-out website that converts and a company with good reputation and ethical business practices. Affiliates want to promote first-rate products or services which they can be proud to be associated with and can recommend to their lists and prospects. Affiliates invest their money time and money to drive traffic to the merchant’s website. It is therefore very important that the merchant’s website and sales copy converts well. Affiliates with good websites work hard to keep their content unique and fresh so they can draw visitors, and they want the merchant’s website where they will drive some of their traffic to be worthwhile with appealing products or services. Affiliates want to be associated with a reliable company that will provide or deliver the products purchased by the buyers and pay its affiliates their commissions.

2. An attractive payment structure, residual commissions, punctual payments and payment options. Your affiliates are in business as much as you the merchant are in business. After they have done their work and bring in sales, reward them generously and quickly! There are many payment structures and options which your affiliate program can use. Payments per click, paying a fixed amount per sale, or paying a specified percentage of the sale are some of the options you can choose from. Make sure that the payment structure you use is suitable to the products you are selling so that you make it worthwhile and appealing from the affiliate’s point of view. The main attraction of affiliate marketing is the opportunity to earn passive residual income. To make your affiliate program even more attractive, try to provide some form of residual commissions. Having an online business means that you will have affiliates from many parts of the world. You the merchant must ensure that you provide payment options that can suit all your affiliates. Be generous and remember that if it were not for your affiliates, it would take you a lot of time, effort and money to bring in so many sales which your affiliates bring.

3. Promotional materials. Your affiliate program is your main promotional tool and you must invest in it by providing all the necessary promotional tools which your affiliates will use to bring in sales. Some of the marketing tools that you must consider providing are banners, codes, PLR articles, solo ads, classified ads and many others. All your affiliates will need to do is to personalize and customize these, and they are ready to drive traffic to the merchant’s site!

4. Accurate tracking and reporting of the affiliate sales statistics. This is very important because affiliates don’t want to feel cheated out of their efforts, and they want to keep a close look at their commission earnings as well as assess if their advertising efforts are brining in the results they want. Many affiliates are savvy internet marketers, and they know that most people whom they direct to the merchant’s website do not purchase immediately. Many people will buy the product or service after it has been advertised to them several times. A merchant must therefore have a good cookie tracking device so that affiliates are rewarded accordingly.

5. Affiliates also want true partnership and communication. It is important for the merchant to regularly communicate with his or her affiliates. If there are any problems, let your affiliate know as soon as possible. If your affiliates have questions, answer them promptly. If you take your affiliate program seriously, it is worthwhile to have a newsletter where you can keep in touch with all your affiliates on a regular basis. Use the newsletter to announce any up-coming products or special offers as well as motivate them. Ask your affiliates about what they would like to have from you the merchant so that they can bring many sales!

Prospective affiliates know what they want, as discussed in this article, and they will expect these from an affiliate program. Provide your affiliates with what they want – and they will happily bring what you the merchant wants – more sales!
